Classes in 4190 today

Due to a plumbing problem in H bldg, there are a number of classes that have been moved to JCLRC 4190 for today and tonight. There is a sheet listing all of today's classes that have been moved to 4190 available at the Circulation desk.

Summer 4-day Work Week

GPC will be operating on a 4-day work week during the summer sessions beginning May 18th until July 30th. In the past, JCLRC have been fortunate to maintain a 5-day work week. However, we will be closed on Fridays during this summer schedule. More updates on how this will impact library services will be announced later.

Baby Shower for Donna

It's a boy! Join us for a baby shower honoring our mother-again-to-be, Donna Constantine. The celebration will take place in the 4th floor classroom (4180) on Friday, March 27th at 2pm - 4pm.

If you can attend, please RSVP with Ameet by Friday, March 20th. She is registered at Target and Babies R Us.

Who's Who Nominations Folder on Reserve

A bright yellow folder with the Who's Who applications have been placed in the reserve room shelf until Friday, March 20th. A list of all the people who should have access to it is attached. Please check off each person on the list as they come by for the folder. Leave the sheet with the names on the shelf. If you have any questions, please ask Amy. Thanks!

Public Safety Training Today

Please be aware that the active shooter police training will be conducted in the N building today from 11:30a - 6:30p. This should not impact library services.

Water Turned Off Postponed

UPDATE: Water services are turned off on the Clarkston campus until 12 noon with the exception the JCLRC.

The water service has been postponed until tomorrow, Wednesday, March 11th. Although it is scheduled to take place between 6am - 12 noon, Plant Operations have said they hope to complete the work early in the morning so that services should be available when the library opens. However, please be aware that delays may occur. Thanks for your patience!

Re-discharging Items

Over the last few weeks, we've done a great job minimizing the number of items that accidentally come through the Circulation desk without being discharged. I know Donna appreciates the lower number of irate patrons.

However, there are still a few items that are slipping through, so, in an effort to minimize even further, we'll begin a new procedure starting today.

Please show up a few minutes early to your shift and re-discharge all the items on the red cart at the Circulation desk.

Also, let's be extra vigilant about discharging Reserve items (textbooks, laptops).

Public Safety Training

I do not know the impact this will have on the Circulation Department but please be aware that GPC Public Safety will be conducting a training on the Clarkston Campus on Wednesday, March 11th. More information to come when notification are sent out on the day of the training.

Water Turned Off

Please be advised that the water service on the Clarkston campus will be turned off Tuesday, March 10th from 6am until 12 noon.

Reserve Date Due Issue

On Friday afternoon around 3pm, I charged a laptop to a patron and noticed that the due date was set to the following day at 10am. After speaking with Tessa, it looks like there’s nothing that can be done. Please be extra careful when charging out materials (particularly in-house reserve items) within 3 hours of the library closing. Although the due date may be set till the following day in the system, make sure to note on the due date slip that the patron must return reserve items 15 minutes before library closes. For example, if a student checks out a laptop on Friday afternoon at 2pm, please note on the slip that the reserve item is due back at 4:15pm, even if the systems sets it to 4:30pm or 10am Saturday morning when the library reopens. This will ensure that students are not penalized for any late returns.Thank you!

Fire Alarm Testing

Please note:

The fire alarm contractor will be testing and inspecting the fire alarms in all buildings on all campuses during the week of March 9th-13th. The testing will involve turning on the alarm and observing the horns and strobe lights for a short period.

Inventory Area Statistics

Stats for the inventory area (problem shelf) have been updated. Compared to the first half of the year, the count for problem books are down. Don't forget to pass along any materials to Donna that needs to reviewed. These include items that need to be repaired, call number labels that need to be replaced, items with barcodes not in the system, etc. Attach a form located on the problem shelf to the book and place it on the shelf in the Circulation Workroom for review.
