Our presence in the library guarantees contact with many people. With that in mind, and with flu season on our heels and the continual spread of the H1N1 virus (commonly referred to as the swine flu or 2009 H1N1), the most important thing we can do is to take steps to prevent 2009 H1N1 from spreading. Use the following as a guideline:
-Practice good habits. Wash your hands often and, if possible, use hand sanitizers. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Use a tissue when sneezing or coughing and dispose of the tissue promptly after use.
-Get vaccinated. While a vaccine for the 2009 H1N1 is not yet available, influenza vaccination is encouraged.
-If you feel sick and think you have the flu, stay home except to seek medical attention. While isolation is not typically recommended for seasonal flu, it is a critical strategy for addressing 2009 H1N1.
